To commemorate this special date, we at 7M Boots present to you 8 interesting facts about this drink that is always present on Brazilian tables. Check it out below:
Brazil is the largest coffee exporter in the world. On average, the country exports more than 35 million sacks each year. Among the countries that import our coffee are the United States and Germany. In total, over 120 nations consume the beans grown in Brazilian lands.
According to recent research, the largest coffee consumers in the world are the Dutch and the Finns, who drink, respectively, 2.6 and 1.8 cups of coffee per day. Although Brazil is a major coffee exporter, our daily consumption is only 0.4 cups. The global average indicates that approximately 1.6 billion cups of coffee are consumed every day.
Unless you sweeten the drink with sugar or sweetener, coffee has no calories, nor does it contain any saturated fats or carbohydrates. This is great news for those who love a cup of coffee and want to keep their diet on track.
Although it is very rarely used, the pulp of coffee determines the moment of harvest. This is because when it appears red or golden (depending on the type), it is the ideal time to pick it. Additionally, coffee is a fruit that can only ripen on the tree; once harvested, it does not continue to evolve.
Widely spoken even today, the term “Coffee with Milk” originated among historians who needed to define a secret political agreement in force during the Brazilian Oligarchic period – from 1894 to 1930 – when the coffee producers from São Paulo and the milk producers from Minas Gerais controlled the elections of civilian presidents.
The world has more than 25 varieties of coffee. Among the most popular are Robusta, which has a higher caffeine content, and Arabica, which is smoother and contains less caffeine.
Besides being delicious, coffee is also a great ally for good health. According to studies, the drink acts on the nervous system, helps with attention and alertness, reduces the chances of developing Alzheimer’s disease, and lowers blood sugar levels, as long as it's consumed in moderation. After all, too much of anything is harmful.
Although it is the main active ingredient in coffee, caffeine can also be found in other products, such as energy drinks and iced teas. However, in a cup of coffee, its content is much higher. To provide some context, for every 240 ml of coffee, a person ingests between 104 and 192 mg of caffeine. So, did you enjoy learning about these 8 facts about coffee?
